Ipsilateral occult hernias during endoscopic groin hernia repair
نویسندگان
چکیده
Endoscopic repair of groin hernias allows the surgeon to have a complete view of the groin and pelvis to diagnose occult hernias both ipsilaterally and contralaterally. These occult hernias can then be treated simultaneously and may reduce the incidence of recurrence and persistent symptoms. The authors present four unusual cases where occult hernias were found ipsilaterally during an endoscopic repair. All these occult hernias were treated along with the clinically diagnosed hernia at the same surgery with excellent results and no post-operative morbidity.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital classification of groin and ventral abdominal wall hernias
BACKGROUND Numerous classifications for groin and ventral hernias have been proposed over the past five to six decades. The old, simple classification of groin hernia in to direct, inguinal and femoral components is no longer adequate to understand the complex pathophysiology and management of these hernias. The most commonly followed classification for ventral hernias divide them into congenit...
متن کاملRole of imaging in the diagnosis of occult hernias.
IMPORTANCE Occult hernias are symptomatic but not palpable on physical examination. This is more commonly seen with inguinal hernias. Early diagnosis and treatment of occult hernias are essential in relieving symptoms and improving patients' quality of life. OBJECTIVE To determine the effectiveness of imaging-ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)...
متن کاملNationwide Prevalence of Groin Hernia Repair
INTRODUCTION Groin hernia repair is a commonly performed surgical procedure in the western world but large-scaled epidemiologic data are sparse. Large-scale data on the occurrence of groin hernia repair may provide further understanding to the pathophysiology of groin hernia development. This study was undertaken to investigate the age and gender dependent prevalence of groin hernia repair. M...
متن کاملOutpatient simultaneous repair of ventral and groin hernias in local anesthesia: case report.
Umbilical and epigastric hernias are occasionally seen in patients with groin hernias, however, there is almost no published evidence about their simultaneous repair. In a 3-year period, 10 patients were subjected to simultaneous repair of groin hernias (7 unilateral, 2 bilateral inguinal and 1 femoral) and ventral hernias (7 primary, 2 recurrent umbilical and 1 epigastric) with local infiltrat...
